William J. Brunken, PhD, Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Director of the Center for Vision Research, has been elected to serve on the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology's Research Director's Council for five years.
Dr. William J. Brunken was named the Vice Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology.

    

RPB is theRPB Logo world's leading voluntary organization supporting eye research. Since it was founded in 1960, RPB has channeled hundreds of millions of dollars to medical institutions for research into the causes, treatment and prevention of blinding eye diseases.


RPB provides funding to only 50 Departments of Ophthalmology nationwide. In 1998, SUNY Upstate Medical University became part of the recognized few to receive funding from RPB. Since that time, RPB has provided SUNY Upstate Medical University's Department of Ophthalmology with more than $2.1 million in funding. Included in this funding is:

The RPB Research Career Development Award Fund was established in 1990 to attract young physicians and basic scientists to eye research. To date, the program has recruited 131 vision scientists to research positions in departments of ophthalmology at universities across the country.
